What is STAR?

STAR is a FCCLA Presentation Competition in which FCCLA members can choose to participate in any of the many categories including Chapter Service Projects, National Programs in Action, and Chapter in Review Portfolios. Within these many competitions students compete with their individual or team projects against others from their district, state, and across the nation.
Last years multiple Fairbury High School Students have participated in STAR and have earned high honors.

Izze saw a need for her school and community to know more about FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences. Through this project Izze was able to organize all of her chapter's involvement in the community, in her school, and all of the FCS courses available at FHS. Izze earned her way to Nationals with her online state submission and will travel to Anaheim, CA in July to compete.

RJ was a senior this year at FHS and recognized his need to figure out his future. Luckily, there is an FCCLA STAR competition to practice this skill. Through RJ's active involvement in our club and others at FHS, interaction with the community, and strong leadership skills, RJ decided to put his qualities to the test and compete in a mock Job Interview for FCCLA. RJ earned 1st place and gold at districts and advanced to state!

These three girls took an annual Fairbury FCCLA fundraiser and turned it into something bigger. Every year during the Thanksgiving season FCCLA hosts a competition between the Elementary, Intermediate, and High School in our town to see which school can donate the most non-perishable food items. Karly, Taryn, and Brooke turned this fundraiser into a great project to display the involvement of Fairbury FCCLA in our community. This group earned 1st place and silver in our district and advanced to state!
National Programs in Action Jr.
Brittany and Megan, through the National Program Student Body, took an already successful FHS FCCLA Fundraiser and turned it into a way to educate students about what they put in their bodies to create their project. With the help of our FCS teacher, FPS kitchen staff, Brittany and Megan were able to calculate data and adjust our recipes to follow the National Smart Snack guidelines. These girls earned 2nd place and silver at Districts to advance them to state!

   Brittney Sheetz

Brittney saw a need in our community, so for her 2018 STAR project she organized a fun run for our community and dedicated it and all contributions to a very important family to help them out. High school wrestling, track and football coach Derek Garfield and his wife, Stephanie, are in the process of adopting a baby. Brittney herself is adopted so wanted to create a project that both made people aware of the adoption process, costliness and helped out the Garfield's.

For Taylea's 2018 STAR project she decided to connect a project that she had done for church in the past to FCS. Taylea knew that there are children all over the world that haven't grown up in a very fortunate household and don't have any toys, so she taught our club how to make yarn dolls. She and our club made 50+ yarn dolls which she then donated to children in need of some toys
