What is FCCLA and FCS?

FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, this organization welcomes students in grades 8-12 to take part in many activities that benefit our community, work towards raising money for the organization, compete in District, State, and National events to earn awards, and attend conferences to learn more about FCCLA and to become better leaders for our Nation. FCCLA is a Family and Consumer Sciences Based organization that works toward bettering the community and learning about family Living. 
National FCCLA Mission
"To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation."

Program Emphasis
"FCCLA us the only in-school student organization with the family as the central focus. FCCLA is a career and technical student organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum  and operates within the school system, and it provides opportunities for active student participation at local, state, and national levels."

FCS Courses at FHS
Family and Consumer Science courses are very popular at FHS, and luckily our school offers a variety of classes to choose from. All FCS courses are taught by the FCCLA and FSC teacher Mrs.Tammi Mans. 

In 8th grade, all students are required to take this basic FCS class where they learn about the human reproductive system, basic cooking skills, and everyday household tasks.

First food lab! Students are making homemade pizza. 

This course introduces students to careers in food services, while they work on advanced food preparation skills to be successful in the food and restaurant industry. 

Culinary Arts 1

Students visiting University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Training Table and competing in Cake Wars!

Students in this course learn the basic interior design principles, home planning and construction and the process in buying or renting a home. 

Interior Design

Students are working together to plan their dream house together. 

This child development class focuses on the emotional, intellectual, social, and physical development of children from one year to age 6, with primary emphasis on early childhood education.

Early Childhood Services

Guest speaker, Cody Moyer, presenting to Early Childhood Services Class. 

Students learn the basic nutritional guidelines through cooking in the kitchen. Important skills like measuring, food preparation, and terms are taught in this course as well as food safety and sanitation. 

Foods & Nutrition

Students are making chlickenstrips!

In this class students learn the basic skills to care for a child, learn how to cook healthy meals for a family, and the marriage process in addition to other skills to run a household. 

Family Living

Students visit the Jefferson County Courthouse and American lutheran Church learning about marriage. 

This course offered at FHS teaches students the growth process of a fetus and how to care for a newborn baby. To simulate child care, students are assigned Real Care electronic babies to practice their parenting skills. 

Child Development and Parenting

Babies are going out to these two Sophomores in Child Development.

Students have guided learning experience within our school system that provides to directly with educators and children. 

Early Childhood Practicum 

Students practicing as a group connections between educators.
